NHAI's DMEDL Raises ₹775 Cr Through First-Ever Green Bonds
DME Development Limited (DMEDL), a wholly owned subsidiary of NHAI, successfully raised ₹775 crore through its pioneering issue of green bonds, marking a significant milestone for the roads and highways sector.
NHAI Chairman Santosh Kumar Yadav lauded the strong investor response, calling the initiative a benchmark for future participation in sustainable infrastructure development. Member (Finance) NHAI and DMEDL Chairman NRVVMK Rajendra Kumar highlighted that the overwhelming demand reflects investor confidence in balancing infrastructure growth with environmental sustainability.
The green bond issue, held through a close bidding system, featured a base size of ₹500 crore and a green-shoe option for an additional ₹275 crore. The bonds were issued with a yield of 7.23% per annum.
Proceeds will fund eco-friendly initiatives such as avenue and median plantations, animal underpasses, natural stormwater drainage systems, solar-powered streetlights, waste recycling, and rainwater harvesting, underscoring DMEDL's commitment to sustainable infrastructure development.
