NHAI will undertake the ₹4000 crore Chhatergala tunnel project and construct underpasses on the Kathua Express corridor as requested by the public.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari confirmed the plans during a meeting in Srinagar, where Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh expressed gratitude for approving his proposals. Dr. Singh highlighted that the Chhatergala tunnel plan, initiated six years ago but stalled due to lack of funds, will now proceed with NHAI constructing a new highway from Lakhanpur to Doda, via Basohli and Bani.

This highway aims to provide all-weather connectivity and boost business, employment, and revenue. The Delhi-Katra express corridor, nearing completion, will include underpasses at Hatli, Rajbagh, Chann Arorian, Chapper, and Kootah for local convenience.

Additionally, work on the Kishtwar Chatru highway section and the Chenani-Sudhmahadev national highway will be expedited. Dr. Singh also noted the government's focus on key projects like the Srinagar-Sonamarg section, Zojila tunnel, Jammu-Rajouri highway, and ring roads for Srinagar and Jammu.
