NHAI to execute ₹8 lakh-cr road projects in three years
The National Highways Authority of India has readied a pipeline of road projects worth ₹8 lakh crore which will be awarded over the next three years. To make India a $5-trillion economy in the next five years, the finance ministry is setting up a high level task force to identify infra projects worth ₹100-lakh-crore by 2024-25. The projects have largely been identified from Bharatmala phase-I, including some other strategic ones which the government wants to build on the fast tracked basis. The road ministry has started the work of land acquisition for the construction of 21,000 km road network under the Bharatmala. Apart from roads, scores of other infra projects have been included to meet the ₹100-lakh crore investment target. The projects identified by NHAI are being appraised by the ministry of road transport and highways and are likely to be bid for under EPC, as private investors have not yet evinced any interest for execution of these Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) projects.
