NHAI takes up ₹5,000-cr Narela-Dwarka highway stretch

NHAI is set to launch the construction work on the 80-km third outer ring road project UER-II starting from NH-1 near Narela and crisscrossing NH-10 through Rohini and Dwarka, touching NH-8 near Rajokri and ending at NH-2. The ₹5,000 crore project was handed over to NHAI by DDA as it was felt that the highways authority is better equipped to handle work of such a large scale. DDA will hand over nearly 125 acres of land along the upcoming urban extension road-II to NHAI to tide over the fund crunch for the road project. NHAI will be allowed to monetize the land parcels to generate about ₹3,200 crore, which it had sought from DDA to build the road. DDA followed a similar model for the Delhi Metro when it gave land to DMRC to fund the projects. NHAI did not opt for tolling on the road, as it was felt that it would not work in the city, said vice chairman, DDA,Tarun Kapoor. Lieutenant governor Anil Baijal had suggested some land to NHAI which could be monetized once its value went up after completion of the stretch.
