In an attempt to fast-track the road and highway projects in Jammu and Kashmir, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) recently review the entire gamut of projects including prestigious and strategic Chenani-Nashri tunnel on the Jammu-Srinagar and Batote Kishtwar National Highways, Chairman Yudhvir Singh Malik said, adding that the nodal agency called upon the executing agencies to stick to deadline for completion of the projects. These projects are very significant and are of national importance as PM is destined to inaugurate them. Official sources said that after detailed inspection and round of whole 9.2 kilometers-long tunnel, the chairman ordered score of corrective measures of small nature and was reportedly satisfied with construction work and would submit site report to Prime Minister's Office and Union Road and Surface Transport Minister, Nitin Gadkari, after which a schedule will be finalized for inauguration of the tunnel. Simultaneously, the NHAI has also directed the agencies for expediting work on widening of National Highway between Udhampur to Chenani, Nashri to Ramban, Ramban to Banihal, and Banihal to Qazigund. The widening work, which has been completed up to Udhampur, has been divided into four zones and taken up simultaneously for its early completion, said NHAI sources.
