The Central government has decided to build the ₹1 lakh crore Delhi-Mumbai expressway green-field project and the entire project is likely to be awarded in one go, said sources, elaborating that NHAI is gearing up to award the highway and start construction work this fiscal itself. The proposed expressway will pass through cities like Mewat, Ratlam, and Dahod and will reduce travel time between the two metro cities by half. The expressway will crisscross through Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Maharashtra, reducing distance from 1,450 km to 1,250 km. At present, it takes around 24 hours to travel from the national capital to the financial capital via National Highway (NH) 8. The transport minister has said that work on about 40 locations will start simultaneously to expedite the work. This will be the project which will see fastest on-ground result as the process of land acquisition in the selected states is nearly complete and all tendering process for the entire project would be completed shortly.
