NHAI Revives Zirakpur Ring Road Project After 11-Year Delay
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has revived the Zirakpur ring road project, which was stalled 11 years ago, with a new plan aimed at easing congestion in Chandigarh by providing an alternative route for Shimla-bound traffic from Ambala. Originally launched in 2013, the project was halted in February 2014 due to legal disputes over land compensation.
The updated plan proposes a 200-foot wide, six-lane bypass stretching approximately 16.5 kilometers. The bypass will start at the Patiala-Zirakpur light point (Airport junction) and end at the old Panchkula light point. It will cross McDonald's on the Ambala-Zirakpur highway and pass through the villages of Peer Muchalla, Sanoli, Gazipur, and Nagla in Mohali, before merging with the dividing road between Sectors 20 and 21 in Panchkula.
