NHAI plans Rs. 2,400-cr Coimbatore-Karur road project

A six-lane green field road project connecting Coimbatore and Karur is all set to take off shortly with the NHAI is currently negotiating for land acquisition and is all set to float tenders for the build-operate-transfer project in the next two months. The 182.5 km road will come up at an investment of Rs. 2,400 crore and will have three toll plazas and that the total land to be acquired in Coimbatore, Tirupur, and Karur districts will be 2,957 acres. The road project with service roads will include an outer ring road for Coimbatore connecting Madukkarai, Sulur, Karumathampatti, Annur and Perianaikenpalayam. Since this is a green field project, the entire alignment is new. While the Karur-Coimbatore bypass is one of the long-pending demands of Coimbatore, consumer organizations as they had urged NHAI to extend the outer ring road to Mettupalayam.
