four-lane flyover project
The NHAI has fast tracked the 1.6-km long four-lane flyover project in the State capital at an investment of Rs. 142 crore. The mega project will come up in front of airport's international terminal on the Chakka-Eenchakkal corridor of Kazhakuttam-Mukkola-Karode NH-66 bypass. The flyover starts from the old and upcoming railway over bridges (ROBs) at Chakka up to Kingsway Hotel along the bypass and will ensure hassle-free connectivity to Thiruvananthapuram international airport. The work has begun and the Hyderabad-based KNR Constructions Ltd (KNRCL), the EPC contractor is executing the 26.7-km four-laning works from Kazhakuttam to Mukkola. The flyover will encompass the service road and the piers will be 25m apart and motorists moving through the bypass from Kazhakuttam to Enchakkal and beyond can proceed through ROBs and flyover. Those proceeding to T-II terminal can exit from the four-lane flyover and take a right turn from the roundabout to be constructed in front of Kingsway Hotel and move via the 45-metre road to enter the ramp to reach the airport. Those coming via the bypass from Kazhakuttam side and proceeding to T-I terminal of the airport, Pettah and beyond can exit through the Slip Road near the right side of the Chakka ROB and reach Chakka junction and proceed ahead.
