National Highway Authorities of India has floated e-tenders to build a new Moorad bridge on NH-66 and a small bridge at Palolipalam at an estimated cost of ₹51.66 crore. Besides, the four-lane bridge, a 2.1 km service road will also come up at Moorad as the old bridge is causing traffic snarls on the Kozhikode-Kannur highway, with ailing patients facing discomfort on their way to hospitals in Kozhikode. Though the state government had allocated ₹50 crore for the new bridge in 2016, the project remained in limbo due to confusion over alignment issues. Now, it has become clear that the new bridge will come up on the same alignment of the four-lane NH development and the tender also says that the work would be completed within one and a half year, informed official sources.
