NHAI floating tender for Thuvakudi-Panchapur road project

National Highways Authority of India
The National Highways Authority of India, which has readied plans for the construction of semi-ring road connecting Thuvakudi with Panchapur, has initiated the process to floating a tender for identifying contractor to complete the project. Simultaneously, allied work to complete the stretch between Panchapur and Jeeyapuram of the semi-ring road has also been expedited by the NHAI to avail the environmental clearance from ministry of environment and forest. The 43-km-long semi-ring road would link five national highways connecting Karur, Dindigul, Madurai, Pudukkottai, and Thanjavur districts with Trichy to help commuters bypass the city traffic. The project witnessed several bottlenecks in the past decade due to legal hurdles, poor planning and official apathy. Though, a portion (14km) of the stage II in the semi-ring road connecting Panchapur with Thuvakudi completed, work was pending on the remaining 11km stretch between Mathur and Panchapur allegedly due to the disagreement between NHAI and a private contractor. But now resolving the deadlock, the district administration recently informed that civil work for the pending project would resume in a month, said NHAI sources.
