Stung by the inordinate delay in the completion of Sangli-Kolhapur four-lane road project, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has decided to complete the pending works of the mega highway project. Prior to this, the public works department (PWD) had handed the road's development to a private contractor, who left the work because of various reasons. About 80% of the work on the 42km stretch has already been completed. The NHAI would now execute the remaining work as on this score a decision was taken during a recent meeting in New Delhi, which was spearheaded by Union road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari. The PWD will hand over the possession of road to NHAI in the next few days as the work on the project in question was given to Supreme Constructions earlier, which failed to complete it within the stipulated timelines.
