Union government has recently approved six laning of 54 km Narasannapeta-Ranastalam section of National Highway-16 in Andhra Pradesh entailing an investment of Rs.1,423 crore. The decision was taken at the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs’ meeting chaired by the PM. The estimated cost included land acquisition, resettlement and rehabilitation and other pre-construction activities. Currently, the existing road is two-lane and passes through urban habitations of Narasannapeta, Madapam, Singipurma, Pedapadu, Seepannaidupeta, Navabharatnagar, Chilakapalem, Budumuru, Bonthupeta, and Laveru. The Highway-16, a part of Golden Quadrilateral, connects Chennai in Tamil Nadu and Kolkata in West Bengal, and passes through Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, and Visakhapatnam.
