MSRDC rolls out Rs. 65,000-cr road network

The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) in a recent decision has decided to implement projects of Rs. 65,000-cr across the state, which also included first-of-its-kind Nagpur-Mumbai expressway, Joint MD, MSRDC, Kiran V Kurundkar, said. The projects also comprise the 706 km long Nagpur-Mumbai expressway being built at a cost of Rs. 46,000cr, of which, Rs. 33,000-cr is the engineering cost and Rs. 13,000-cr would be the outgo on land acquisition. Currently, the road building agency is in the process of finalizing contracts for constructing the missing links between Khalapur toll plaza and Sinhgad Institute near Lonavala. With these, traffic congestion on the hills on a 4.5 km long stretch will ease for which the estimated project cost is Rs. 7,000cr. The third and fourth projects are both in Thane areas. One is the Thane creek bridge (Vashi bridge) and entails construction of a third bridge besides the existing ones and the second is also in Thane, is on the Thane-Ghodbunder road which joins with the national highway that goes all the way up to Ahmedabad. Other projects are an elevated road on a stretch of about 5 km through the hills and an underground tunnel below the Sanjay Gandhi National Park to connect Thane in the central suburbs with Borivali in the western suburbs.
