MoRTH speeds up Rs.29,000-cr bridges

The Transport ministry, shortly after clearing the project, is all set to table the proposal before the Central cabinet for its nod to construct a four-lane bridge parallel to the Mahatma Gandhi Setu with an estimated cost of around Rs.2900 crore. The proposed bridge is under the special package which PM had announced for Bihar, for which Centre will bear the entire cost of the new project. After the on-going process, tenders would be floated for roping in firm(s) for construction works, said MoRTH sources, claiming that the bridge would be constructed west of Gandhi Setu and its existing approach road would be developed into four lanes in order to cater to the new bridge as well. The length of the new bridge, including the approach road, would be 15-km and once started, it would be completed over a period of three years.
