The transport ministry has planned to complete three of the 22 expressways and green corridors in the next three years. With a length of 7,500 km and an investment of ₹3.10 lakh crores, the flagship Delhi Mumbai Expressway is a greenfield project being built at a new alignment and is slated to be completed in the next three years. The project will be executed in 51 packages and work has started on 18 of them. This will be India's longest expressway with a length of 1,320 km and will reduce travel time between Delhi and Mumbai from the current 24 hours to 13 hours. For the Delhi Mumbai Expressway, the alignment has been selected to avoid habitation. About ₹16,000 crore will be for land acquisition alone. Of the total, six projects of 2,250 km will be constructed at a cost of ₹1.45 lakh crore and the remaining 16 greenfield corridors, including 5,250 km projects, will be constructed at a cost of ₹1.65 lakh crore. Besides Delhi Mumbai Expressway, the trans-Rajasthan and trans-Haryana projects will also be completed within the next three years.
