MoRTH focuses on EPC model for highway building

MoRTH
According to Nitin Gadkari, road projects in the country are to be developed entirely on the government-funded model EPC, to ensure faster execution. The government must opt for building projects on EPC mode, and monetize them, instead of depending on the private sector to bring funds, which delays these projects. In the infrastructure sector, the government tried to encourage the PPP, but those who have gone for BOT projects have faced difficulties on mamy fronts as banks are not friendly towards them, and their time is wasted in raising finance. The government will have to award more infrastructure projects to resolve the liquidity crisis in the country. The highway ministry has set itself a target of awarding 20,000 km of road projects in the current fiscal year while keeping the construction target to 15,000 km.
