Hubballi and Dharwad cities are all set to get a new flyover at an investment of Rs.1,242.26 crore. The action plan of the flyover has been submitted to the government, with the focus on the main traffic junctions — Hubballi's Kittur Rani Channamma Circle and Dharwad's Jubilee Circles and the transport minister has agreed to make the fund available for the project. The flyover will be constructed over 12.8 kms — 5.8 kms near the Channamma Circle and 7 km at the Jubilee Circle. The flyover connects PB Road, NH 4, Vijayapur Road, 218, Gadag State Highway, 63, Dharwad Road, Old Bus Stand and Janata Bazar. The flyovers for the Channamma Circle will cost Rs.561.25 crore and Rs.681.01 crore respectively and fund has also been earmarked for the Jubilee Circle. Implementation of the project and providing utilities, such as a water pipeline, electric lines, drainage lines, require 1,28,054.50 sqft of land in Hubballi, of which 2,501.46 sq ft is yet to be acquired. In Dharwad, 1,18,165.50 sqft is needed for the project and utilities, in which 6,5193.58 sqft is to be acquired. Rs.18.86 crore and Rs.72.87 crore has been set aside for the purpose. The Central government has shown special interest in implementing the project and has granted Rs.360 crore to uplift the Channamma Circle.
