MoRTH banks on ₹1.3 lakh-cr banking booster

Expressing their willingness to fund highway building in a big way, banks are now ready to invest ₹1.3 lakh crore in the road sector, road transport minister Nitin Gadkari said, adding that his ministry has already kick started the stalled projects and most projects undertaken during the past four years have been under the government-funded engineering, procurement and construction model and now banks are being roped in to finance the public-private partnership projects. After resolving the contentious issue of stuck projects worth about ₹4 lakh crore in the past four years the banks now are feeling completely safe to lend for PPP highway projects.
