MMRDA plans double-decker metro depot

Avant-grade double-decker Metro depot
Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has decided to build an avant-grade double-decker Metro depot at Mandale to cater to the requirements of Metro line 2A, 2B and 7. To carry out washing works of the coaches, an automatic coach wash plant will be installed in the depot at the entry and exit points of the mainline. The depot will be constructed in 31 hectares of the land and will have a waste-water treatment plant that can recycle the water used for washing the coaches. Th depot will accommodate 72 trains of eight coaches, at the same time. The eco-friendly and energy-efficient Manadle depot will have two-floors for the stabling of metro trains making optimal use of land. The concept of making an elevated depot has been developed by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) at Vinod Nagar and Kalindi Kunj to stable the trains which are running on Line 7 (Shiv Vihar – Majlis Park) and Line 8 (Janakpuri West – Botanical Garden) of Delhi Metro Rail network. The depot will be catering to three different metro lines of Mumbai Metro Rail network being implemented by MMRDA — Line 2A (Dahisar to D N Nagar, 18.589 km), Line 2B (DN Nagar to Mandale is 23.643 km) and for Line 7 (Andheri East to Dahisar East, 16.475 km). In addition to the above, the depot will also have a total of nine inspection bays, of which six will be constructed to accommodate eight-coach metro trains and three will be for the accommodation of six-coach trains, said MMRDA in an official statement.
