The proposed Chheda Nagar flyover projects at Chembur have been fast tracked as the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) recently floated fresh bids for the project. Prior to this, the bids, which were to be finalized in April 2017, had been scrapped as the authorities were not satisfied with the lowest bidder's financial condition. Metropolitan Commissioner U P S Madan said that the nodal agency floated fresh bids which will be finalized in a few months. Work will start thereafter, as currently the Chheda Nagar junction has only one flyover that services the direction towards Sion from Thane as it does not have a north-bound arm. The junction is at the mouth of the Ghatkopar-Mankhurd Link Road (GMLR), which is witnessing heavy traffic. MMRDA has therefore planned to construct two flyovers and an elevated road to decongest this junction. Work on the project is expected to be completed in 36 months. The junction improvement plan has become crucial as the state government has already decided to demolish the Amar Mahal flyover after its northbound arm suffered damage.
