Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated the priority section of the Delhi-Ghaziabad –Meerut RRTS Corridor, built at a cost of Rs 30,000 crore, at Uttar Pradesh’s Sahibabad RapidX station. He also flagged off ‘Namo Bharat', the country’s first RapidX train connecting Sahibabad to Duhai Depot, marking the launch of Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) in the country. The government is developing the RRTS project to transform regional connectivity through the construction of new world-class transport infrastructure. The Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) is a new rail-based, semi-high-speed, high-frequency commuter transit system. The train has a design speed of 180 Kmph, although it will operate at a maximum speed of 160 kmph. It will provide high-speed trains for intercity commuting every 15 minutes, which can go up to a frequency of every 5 minutes, as needed. This system connects Delhi to Meerut in less than an hour of travel time. The 17 km long priority section stretches from Sahibabad to Duhai Depot with five stations including Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Guldhar, Duhai and Duhai Depot and criss-crossing urban centres of Ghaziabad, Muradnagar, and Modinagar.
