The Northeast Frontier Railways has accelerated the Bairabi-Sairang New Line Railway Project, which will connect the north-eastern state of Mizoram with the rest of India. Upon completion, the project will significantly improve communication and commerce in the region, particularly in Mizoram. The project involves the construction of an additional 51.38 km of railway track with 55 major bridges, and the transportation of fabricated girders to bridge sites has been a challenging task due to the narrow, hilly roads with sharp curves and steep gradients. The erection of steel girders is a critical aspect of the project, and the work is being carried out around the clock to expedite progress. The project faces several challenges, including a short construction season due to heavy monsoons, difficult terrain, poor accessibility, a lack of construction materials and skilled labor. Despite these obstacles, the Northeast Frontier Railway is committed to completing the project as soon as possible, which will greatly benefit tourism and socio-economic development in the state and region, as well as providing long-distance access across the country and uninterrupted supply of essentials to Mizoram.
