The Mumbai Metro Corporation Ltd (MMRCL) has approved the extension of the underground Metro-3 corridor and now it has been made accessible by road transport. Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Ajit Pawar informed that the 32.5km-long Metro 3 corridor is also known as the Colaba-Bandra-Seepz line and its final destination was in Cuffe Parade and now it will be in Navy Nagar. The ministry of defence had requested the state government to operate Metro-3 services from Navy Nagar and thereafter the proposal was referred to the executing agency, Mumbai Metro Corporation Ltd (MMRCL), whose board has approved the extension and the line will now be extended by 2.5km in south Mumbai. The final terminal station in south Mumbai at Navy Nagar will come up near the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research Centre (TIFR). The Navy had sought this extension as it has around 1 lakh people, including the floating population. The detailed project report will be prepared after an agency is appointed. Thereafter, tenders will be floated for construction of 5km (2.5km each, in the up and down directions) extension and the station and the extended portion of the line will cost around ₹2,500-₹3,000 crore.
