The government of Karnataka has given the green light to the Bengaluru Metro's Phase III expansion project, which is estimated to cost ₹16,328 crore. The proposal for this phase has already been submitted to the central government for approval. The project will add 44.65 km of metro network to Bengaluru, with two corridors: one along the Outer Ring Road and the second via Magadi Road. The first corridor will stretch from J P Nagar 4th Phase to Kempapura and will have 22 stations along a 32.15 km route. The second corridor, from Hosahalli to Kadabagere, will have nine stations along a 12.5 km route. The project is expected to be completed by 2028, with 60% of the funding being raised through external assistance, while the state and central governments will split the remaining 40% equally. Two road-cum-metro flyovers will also be built as part of this phase, one from the Kanakapura Road junction to Sarakki junction, and the other between Kamakya, Ittamadu, and Hoskerehalli junction. Currently, works for Phase 2 of the Namma Metro project are underway, and the BMRC is aiming to make 175 km of metro network operational by June 2025, with a total of 314 km of metro connectivity planned for the city by 2041, according to the state's Chief Minister.
