DMRC plans pedestrian subway to improve airport accessibility
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) plans to construct a pedestrian subway to connect the Aerocity Metro Station with the nearby Mahipalpur area, improving accessibility to Indira Gandhi International Airport. The 270-meter-long subway will pass under the busy Mahipalpur flyover on NH-48. Currently, the Aerocity station is an important stop on the Airport Express Line, but residents in nearby hotels in Mahipalpur must cross the busy highway to reach the station. The subway will also be open to pedestrians crossing the highway. The Aerocity Metro Station is also set to become a key interlink station as part of DMRC's Phase 4, with the under-construction Silver Line terminating there. The subway will also connect to a proposed Regional Rapid Transit System station at Aerocity, potentially creating a triple interchange in the area. The station may also have the potential to become a triple interchange in the future as the National Capital Region Transport Corporation plans to have interchange facilities at Aerocity for its proposed corridor to Alwar.
