CMRL secures CRZ clearance for Metro-3 Corridor

Chennai Metro's Corridor-3
Chennai Metro's Corridor-3 has received clearance from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change's expert appraisal committee for the construction of portions on the 45.8km route, from Madhavaram Milk Colony to Siruseri Sipcot. The clearance includes permission for 1.2km of underground tunnels, areas in Thirumayilai and Taramani stations, a 512sqm Buckingham Canal culvert in Thirumayilai, and a 51sqm emergency evacuation shaft near the Adyar river. However, the clearance came with conditions such as monitoring vibrations at a distance of 200m on either side of the alignment at receptors comprising educational, medical, and cultural buildings and fragile structures, taking Ground Penetrating Radar measurements before and after tunneling, identifying loose strata from geotechnical data along the alignment, and submitting regular compliance reports to the regional office.
