The Central Railway has begun construction on the redevelopment of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) railway station, with an investment of ₹1,813 crore. The project, which was recently inaugurated by the Prime Minister, aims to decongest the southern heritage area and provide two additional passenger boarding areas for suburban and long-distance trains. The CSMT will be redesigned with modern systems, including lifts, escalators, and travelators, and will be integrated with metro line No. 3. The redevelopment also includes the construction of an iconic station building, the conservation and restoration of the heritage structure, and the creation of spacious double-level suburban and long-distance concourses with retail, cafeteria, and recreational facilities. The station will also have uniformity of design approach across the station and will connect all sides of the building and all platforms.
