Centre approves Bengaluru-Hosur inter-state metro project
The Center has approved the feasibility study for the Bengaluru-Hosur metro project, which will connect the cities of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. The feasibility assessment for the first inter-state metro connection in South India has already been initiated by the Chennai Metro Rail Company (CMRL), which will be fully funded by Tamil Nadu. The proposed route will be 20.5 km long, with 11.7 km in Karnataka and the remaining 8.8 km in Tamil Nadu. The project is expected to promote the expansion of the industrial town of Hosur, home to over 2,000 MSMEs, and make it easier for lakhs of people to commute between Hosur and Bangalore. The Karnataka Government had expressed its support for the project in 2022. A new line will be constructed from the current Bommasandra metro station to Hosur, making it the first inter-state metro connectivity in South India.
