Govt-Maharashtra
The newest norms of the state government has paved the way for the reconstruction of about 30,000 of the one lakh registered societies in Pune, Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Thane of which 3,000 societies are located in Pune district alone. The redevelopment rules in Maharashtra Cooperative Housing Society Act and the Maharashtra Apartment Ownership Act have been amended recently. The move is expected to speed up reconstruction of old buildings, vice-chairman of Maharashtra State Cooperative Housing Federation and chairman of Pune district Cooperative Housing Federation, Suhas Patwardhan said, adding that the new rule will help old societies that had to wait for nearly 3/4th or 70% owners consent for redevelopment. The amendment will help approximately 30% of cooperative housing societies move ahead with redevelopment that was till now held up due to non-cooperation from some members. In Pune district, around 6,000 cooperative housing societies of the 16,000 registered are seeking redevelopment.
