M'rashtra speeds up Rs. 453-cr airport projects

In order to boost air connectivity in the region, state government in Maharashtra has announced to upgrade the Aurangabad Airport at an investment of Rs. 453cr. In addition to this, the government is also all set to build the city as an attractive tourist circuit covering Mhaismal and Shulibhanjan areas. The state cabinet meet also resolved to recommend Aurangabad for the Centre's Heritage City Development and Augmentation Yojana (HRIDAY) and its inclusion in Unesco's World Heritage City Programme, said official sources, claiming that the cabinet put its stamp on the city as the place for setting up the irrigation commission and also building the state-of-the-art transport hub. With this, Aurangabad will not only have the tag of Smart City, but it will also be covered under HRIDAY. The runway of the Aurangabad Airport would be widened to make it on a par matching international standards. After the Airport Authority of India (AAI) refused to bear the expenditure required for the widening the runway, the state government has decided to pay for the airport upgrade
