In a bid to ensure smooth flow of road and rail traffic across the state, the Union Transport Ministry and NHAI recently signed an agreement to construct bridges on railway tracks across the state at an investment of Rs. 10,000cr, said official sources, claiming that there are 210 level crossings where railway tracks and roads cross each other. Such level crossings currently lead to either delay in movement of trains or vehicular traffic on roads and all the targeted bridges, ROBs and RUBs would be constructed within the next three years. Of the total investment, railways will contribute Rs. 5,000-cr and the Maharashtra government will chip in the remaining portion of the investment from Central Road Funds. The state government's role will be in speedy acquisition of land and utility shifting on priority basis, they added.
