The state cabinet in a recent move has approved Metro line 2B and Metro line 4 entailing a staggering investment of Rs. 10,986cr, said official sources, claiming that Metro 2B is estimated to cost Rs. 10,986cr, whereas the projected cost for Metro 4 is Rs 14,459cr. In the process, Metro 2B is proposed from DN Nagar in Andheri West to Mandala in the eastern suburbs. The 23.5 km long corridor will have 22 stations with interchanges available with the Metro 1 at DN Nagar, the suburban rail network at Bandra, Metro 3 at ITO junction and both suburban rail and Metro 4 at Kurla East. The Metro 4 line is proposed from Wadala to Kasarwadavli, with a distance of 32.32 km and will have 32 stations. It will connect Mumbai to Thane and will offer interchanges at Wadala with the Monorail, at Kurla EEH with Metro 2B and at Kapurbawdi with Metro 5. Trains on both the proposed corridors will be six-coach ones, and both the lines are targeted to become operational by 2021-22.
