Larsen & Toubro bags ₹1,400 cr power contracts

Larsen Toubro
Adding to its project portfolio in the power sector, Larsen & Toubro's power vertical has won two orders from NTPC involving an investment of ₹1,400 crore. The contract involved the setting up flue gas desulphurization (FGD) systems at NTPC's Vindhyachal Super Thermal Power Plant in Madhya Pradesh and Darlipali Super Thermal Power Project in Odisha. Installation of FGD systems at the existing and upcoming thermal power plants has been made mandatory by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Government of India, to curtail SO2 emissions. For these projects, the engineering and construction major will be using FGD technology of Japan's Chiyoda Corporation with which it has a long-term technical licence agreement. The unique technology allows absorbing sulphur dioxide from flue gas generated by coal-fired, oil-fired and other types of boilers and removing it as gypsum. The agreement grants the company exclusive rights to undertake engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) of CT-121TM FGD systems. The power business of L&T, through its joint venture companies, has also won orders in the domestic and export markets for engineering services and supply of components, the statement added. DDA approves six lanes bridge in Delhi

The planning body of the DDA recently approved the construction of a six-lane flyover in the city that will make a stretch of road signal-free from a section of a national highway to the GT Road. The decision was also steered cleared by the Unified Traffic and Transportation Infrastructure (Planning & Engineering) Centre (UTTIPEC) in its recent sitting held under the chairmanship of Delhi Lt Governor Anil Baijal. The proposed flyover will make road No. 56 signal-free, from NH-24 (Ghazipur intersection) to GT Road (Apsara border). This is connected to existing ROB (road over bridge) near Shrestha Vihar Junction at southern side and near Vivek Vihar intersection at the northern side, DDA said in a statement, reiterating that the proposed flyover will also ease local traffic in Vivek Vihar, Sunder Nagar, Ramprastha Colony, Anand Vihar and other nearby residential colonies. In addition, a short-term traffic improvement plan for decongestion of Hardev Sahai Marg and Rani Jhansi Road, between Kashmere Gate and Panchkuian Marg T-Junction was also approved. This proposal has been conceived in two parts, i.e., from Kashmere Gate junction to northern toe of Rani Jhansi flyover (Tis Hazari side) and another from southern toe of Rani Jhansi Flyover (Filmistan side) to Panchkuian T-junction, the nodal agency claimed.
