L&T wins ₹31.91-bn metro contract in Bangladesh

L&T Construction, the wholly owned arm of Larsen & Toubro (L&T) recently bagged ₹31.91 billion contract from Dhaka Mass Transit Company for the construction of a railway line for Dhaka Metro. The Indian player has secured the order in JV with Marubeni Corporation (Japan) through an international competitive bidding process. Metro Rail’s Line 6 is the first route of the Mass Rapid Transit system in Bangladesh and is being financed by the Japan International Corporation Agency (JICA) through bilateral aid from Japan. The railways strategic business group of L&T Construction's transportation infrastructure wing will design and build the project adhering to strict timelines, said official sources, claiming that the Water & Effluent Treatment wing of L&T Construction has also secured orders worth ₹5,704 crore across the country in te domestic arena.
