Kolkata Metro to Implement Driverless Technology with CBTC System

the Communication-Based Train Control
Kolkata Metro, India’s first metro system, is set to implement the Communication-Based Train Control (CBTC) system, enabling driverless train operations on two routes. This advanced signalling upgrade, costing ₹800 crore, will automate train operations, eliminating the need for motormen. The CBTC system will be implemented on the Joka-Esplanade and Kavi Subhash-Biman Bandar routes. Officials noted that this technology is already in use on the East-West Metro corridor.
