Kochi’s Seaport-Airport Road Project Revives as HMT-NAD Section Work Begins

The long-delayed Kochi’s Seaport-Airport Road project has gained momentum with preparatory work starting on the HMT-NAD section. Tender procedures for the stretch, part of the project’s second phase, are expected to be completed by March 1, after which construction will begin.

Once finished, the new segment will connect the corridor to a 1.9 km section completed in 2021 after land acquisition in HMT Colony, Kalamassery. The development is expected to ease congestion and provide long-awaited relief to residents who have sought completion of the road for more than two decades.

The first phase of the project began in 2003 but remained stalled for years due to delays in securing land from the central government.
