KMRCL unveils Salt Lake-Howrah Maidan new corridor

Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation
The Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation, which is building the East-West Metro Corridor, has added a new metro corridor between Salt Lake Sector-V to Howrah Maidan. The project will give a boost to Make in India policy as metro transits will be procured from BEML at ₹900 crore. 60% of rake components are produced in India and involves 100% indigenization of the track fastening system. The entire project will offer an efficient, eco-friendly and safe transport system and there will also be a reduction in travel time and the consumption of fuel. The Railway ministry informed that the entire project, likely to cost ₹8,575 crore, is expected to be completed by the end of 2021 as the construction work on the underground Sealdah Metro station is currently in full swing. The station is located adjacent to the Sealdah main station building. The 16.6 km long Kolkata Metro's East-West Metro Corridor will have an elevated stretch of 5.8 km and an underground length of 10.8 km.
