Kerala unveils road upgrade plans

In its quest to upgrade road network matching the laid down standards, the state government in Kerala has decided to upgrade sixteen roads with a length of over 50 km in Alappuzha town. A Detailed Project Report will be prepared by the Kerala Road Fund Board Public Works Minister, G.Sudhakaran said, reiterating that the report will be ready within two months. The project, which is to be implemented in two phases, will be launched this year itself and that the funds for the project will be sought from non-budgetary sources and the roads will be constructed with a 15-year guarantee. The project will include schemes to protect heritage sites and canals, with a view to developing tourism. The project will be implemented on the lines of modification of roads, undertaken in Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode, he claimed.
