Kerala cracks four flyover projects

Kerala Flyover Projects
In order to do away with the traffic congestion, the state government has decided to build four flyovers as part of the light metro project. The flyover at Thampanoor has been estimated to cost Rs. 180-cr and formal approvals have also been given to flyovers at Sreekaryam, Ulloor, and Pattom. Incidentally, construction of a new flyover at Thampanoor will also involve widening of the existing two-lane flyover there. The light metro pillars will be constructed over the new flyover which runs from RMS Junction to Chenthitta. In addition to the construction of this 680 metre new flyover, the Kerala Rapid Transit Corporation is planning four-laning of the existing flyover which connects Thampanoor with Thycaud and Chenthitta. The junction of the flyover is very congested and often witnesse traffic congestion. The National Transportation Planning and Research Centre recently conducted a traffic study at the existing flyover to review the report submitted by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (DMRC), which is the general consultant of the project. The alignment for light metro included the same alignment for monorail except at the Thampanoor-Killipalam route. The new flyover will run parallel to the existing flyover, but will take a turn near the railway station side ahead of the existing flyover, said an official spokesperson.
