Kerala Proposes Development of Ponnani Port Under Sagarmala Scheme

The Kerala Maritime Board has submitted a proposal to the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways for the construction of a Multi-Purpose Berth at Ponnani, a non-major port, at an estimated cost of ₹20 crore. The Kerala government is considering developing the port under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, aiming to enhance regional connectivity, boost cruise tourism, and drive economic growth. An Expression of Interest (EoI) has been issued to private service providers for initiating cruise shipping that would connect various non-major ports and ports in neighboring states.
