The Karnataka government is set to implement the much-awaited suburban rail project at an investment of ₹19,500 crore. Chief secretary TM Vijaya Bhaskar said that a decision to this effect was recently taken to give an in-principle approval to the feasibility report prepared by RITES. The mega venture is being taken up on a 51:49 cost sharing ratio between the railways and state government. The project will be fast tracked once it gets clearance from the state cabinet and CM’s office as its cost has scaled up by about ₹2,500 crore.
