Karad-Chiplun railway line on anvil in M'rashtra

Karad Chiplun Rail Line
The state government and the Indian Railways are all set to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for laying the Karad-Chiplun railway line crossing the Sahyadri mountain range, Union Railway Minister, Suresh Prabhu, said adding that officials from the Konkan Railway Corporation Ltd. and a few private companies will jointly take up the initiative. The state's ambitious project aims to connect the western coast with the central part of the country. The state government has promoted investments in private ports in the Konkan region, with three companies partaking in the projects. These ports will have railway connectivity to keep transportation costs low. In all, there are nine railway projects, for which the state will partner with private players to carry out the projects. Union Railway Minister, Suresh Prabhu, has already elaborated his plans to increase the railway network in the state, as there are two proposals - one to connect Karad and Chiplun and the other to connect Kolhapur to Vaibhavwadi. Land survey reports have already been put in place by the railways department and there is hardly any forest land that can obstruct the proposal, he claimed.
