Union minister for urban development, M Venkaiah Naidu said that the Centre will render full support to the state in the development of Kanpur and Varanasi metro projects. A proposal of Kanpur metro was prepared by the state government and sent to the Centre where it is in the stages of approval and will be cleared shortly by the Union cabinet and Centre would extend all support for it. As a matter of fact, both Prime Minister, Narendra Modi in Centre and Akhilesh in the state, will take forward the Kanpur Metro Project to its conclusive end. The Central government has already cleared Lucknow Metro Project and now it is in the process of clearing Kanpur project. When state government will send proposal for Varanasi Metro Project, the Centre will approve it also. Apart from this, Kanpur would be transformed into a beautiful city under the smart city mission as the state has maximum number of smart cities and apart from this, 61 of its cities would be developed as 'Amrit' towns where sanitation facilities, water supply, sewerage, drainage, urban development will be upgraded matching national standards, he claimed.
