Jal Shakti Minister Reviews River Rejuvenation Technologies with IITs, Denmark, Netherlands

A high-level review meeting was held in Delhi to advance the use of technology and innovation for river rejuvenation under the Namami Gange programme. Chaired by Union Jal Shakti Minister Shri C.R. Patil, the session focused on leveraging scientific solutions for sustainable management of rivers, particularly smaller ones.

The Minister praised the collaborative efforts and scientific contributions of research teams, stressing the need to translate research into real-world interventions. He reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to achieving a clean and uninterrupted Ganga and directed all stakeholders to accelerate implementation across priority river systems for a water-secure future.

Notable presentations were made by IIT (BHU) and IIT Delhi, working respectively with Denmark and the Netherlands. IIT (BHU), under the Smart Laboratory on Clean Rivers (SLCR) initiative, and IIT Delhi, under the IND RIVERS initiative, presented technological solutions including a Decision Support System for rejuvenation of the Varuna river. These innovations aim to bring a targeted, sustainable approach to river conservation and urban river management in India.
