In its quest to provide world class aviation facilities to air travelers, the AAI has decided to upgrade the 18,000 sq mt area of the total 1.25 lakh sqmt cover of Jaipur International Airport (JIA) into a state-of-the-art international airport at an investment of Rs.1,400 crore, said director Jaideep Singh Balhara. He further added that the existing Terminal II will also be expanded simultaneously at a cost of Rs.35 crore for which the airport management invited bids from global firms and a German company has been awarded the contract for the monitoring & consultancy (PMC) for the new terminal which is going to be nine times bigger than the existing one. While the preparatory work is set to start next month, the actual work on the new terminal will commence only in December this year and would be completed in a phased manner. The new terminal will have two arrival and departure levels dedicated to international and domestic passengers. In the meantime, for the convenience of passengers, which is expected to touch 4.6 million by this year-end, the existing Terminal II will be expanded simultaneously, he added.
