The Union government in its recent budgetary proposals, has earmarked Rs.5,000 crore investments for building five national highways projects in Telangana. Among these, the Mancherial-Chandrapur stretch, which entailed an investment of Rs.1500 crore has been given paramount importance. The 95-km-long stretch would be upgraded from the state highway to the national highway passing through Asifabad town. National Highways Authorities of India say that the works would be commenced following the completion of tendering of the works, which is likely to be completed by the end of April this year. Duration of the execution of the works is two years from the date of commencement once executing agency is finalized. A consultancy has already been appointed for demarking the land to be used for converting of the road into a national highway and DPR also covers allied works including designs of underpasses and bypass roads. A toll plaza will be set up on the outskirts of Mandamarri town whereby the width of the road is going to be 150 feet in residential areas and 198 feet in non-residential stretches, said official sources.
