J&K gets ₹3,848-cr Baramulla-Kupwara railroad project

The railway has conducted a satellite survey for the construction of a railroad from Baramulla to Kupwara in northern Kashmir entailing an investment of ₹3,848 crore. For the project, which was approved by the central government in 2018, railway has already submitted the report of the aerial survey for 39-km long stretch to the railway board. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, who reviewed the work on the mega project, directed railways to fast-track the work on the project. The aerial survey was carried out with the help of New Australian Tunnelling Method (NATM) as its survey is important for the tunnel construction and track alignment. The railway line will be the extension of Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla rail link up to Kupwara. Baramulla-Kupwara rail link project would be taken up under umbrella work by the railways. The major towns to be covered in the rail link include Watergam, Rohama, Dangiwacha, Langate, Handwara Kulangam and Drugmulla.
