IWAI Signs MoU with J&K Government to Develop Inland Waterways

The Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir to develop river navigation infrastructure across three national waterways—NW-26 (River Chenab), NW-49 (River Jhelum), and NW-84 (River Ravi).
Under this agreement, IWAI will initiate development activities including the installation of floating jetties at ten locations, dredging to create navigational fairways, deployment of night navigational aids, and regular hydrographic surveys to ensure the safe movement of vessels.
To further boost the Inland Water Transport (IWT) sector in the region, IWAI has also established a new office at Srinagar’s Transport Bhawan, under the aegis of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways.
