Infra Push: Roads double up to cater air traffic

In its newest scheme of things, the Union Government is currently building airports equipped with facilities to cater air and road traffic simultaneously. A recent case at point is that of Rajasthan, where the airstrip will double up as runway for flights and facility to handle the road traffic is coming up in the state. Mentioning about the construction of such an airport in Rajasthan, the Union Transport Minister, Nitin Gadkari said that, “similar projects are being planned in Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, and some other border districts across the country. As of now, an airport is being built in Rajasthan that would also have national highways and cement concrete road”.

The government is working on ways to boost regional air connectivity in the country. In new civil aviation policy, the Regional Connectivity Scheme has been mooted that provides for various concessions to airlines. Under the scheme, air ticket prices would be capped at Rs. 2,500 for one-hour flights on un-served and under-served routes.
